Kallikrein Inhibitor - Trade Name: Kalbitor

Kalbitor, from Dyax Corp., is a recombinant product that inhibits kallikrein - an enzyme that plays a key role in the biochemical processes that lead to HAE-related swelling.

The product is delivered through subcutaneous injections and is estimated to be available in the US in early 2010.

Kalbitor was approved by FDA in December 2009 to treat acute HAE attacks in patients 16 years of age and older. It is expected that Dyax will work on international approval of Kalbitor as well.
